Conflicting Thoughts

Sometimes I wonder if I'm headed in the right direction. You know that feeling that usually comes during tough times...that little thought that tells you that what you're doing (studying for the mcat) isn't too fun and there's a thousand ways you could better spend your time.

Maybe I just need more self-motivation. Right now physics and general chemistry aren't appealing to me. What appeals to me is organic chemistry and biology...so much more straight forward! Wow...now I sound like a big nerd!

Actually, I wish I was one of those people who seem to have 48 hours in each day. Seriously, with the amount of work those people get done, there must be 2 of them or something!

I actually met with a potential honours supervisor yesterday and it went mostly well! The research he's doing sounds amazing! He explained it so fast but I think the gist of the project I'm interested in would deal with inducing tumors in rats and then splicing genes to suppress the tumor! So cool!! The only downside might be a language barrier. Dr. Pasumarthi's english is pretty good but another guy in the lab who would probably be helping me a lot has...limited english...meh...it can't be tooo bad :).

Oh, last thing - got a call the other day and I have another interview scheduled for Tuesday! It's at...Garage Clothing. Yes, I would be selling clothes to pre-teen girls...but imagine the discounts! The question is: is there enough time in the week to work, do honours project, and study for the mcat? Part of me says "GO FOR IT!!!" and the other part is shying away. Caution: I might age 20 years by the end of the summer :S.

I'm being forced to update my blog...

Okay, so it's been about a month that I've left my poor blog to be read by random blog-stalkers. Sorry about the not-so-frequent updates everyone. Here's what's been happening!

1. I'm taking an mcat course at dal! Yes, this is a course to prepare one to write the exam. Our teacher seems really good so far so hopefully it will be enjoyable. Note: the mcat is an opportunity, not an obstacle (I've been repeating this to myself all day).

2. I'm looking for a job. I did a computer survey at Payless and halfway through it I thought "Yeah, they're definitely not going to hire me by the way these questions are going" so I had fun with the rest of it...example:
Question: "How many times have your parents punished you for taking something that wasn't yours"
My Answer: Three times...this was probably a bad move since they now think I have a bad habit of stealing...I was thinking more of taking my sisters' toys when we were little.

However, I have a job interview tonight to be a personal aid assistant and if that doesn't work out I have one tomorrow for ScotiaCare, working as a companion or in child care.

3. If all these jobs fail, I can always do my honours research this summer instead of during the fall. Here are my options so far:
a. Work in a lab which involves measuring the Hippocampi in MRI images of normal patients and ones with clinical depression.
b. Working for "Frog Man"...heee heee. He works with frogs and is researching something about their turning bias and "handedness"
c. Doing my honours in the fall and doing cardiovascular research.

They all sound exciting so we'll see what works out.

4. Volunteering at the QEII. Had an interview but am basically in except I have to find proof of my first mumps shot...which has been missing since my previous family doctor retired :S.

5. My dad got a new job! He's now working for Air Canada Jazz after 26 years at IMP. He says he's not comfortable with it yet (only 2 weeks on the job so far) but hopefully he'll ease in. It's definitely a huge answer to dad's prayers :). Oh, and the perks? Free travel...only have to pay the airport fees!!

Hope that my blog fans have enjoyed this post (fans? haha...what a joke) and I hope you're happy about the update Gilberto!!
