Changes

Woah...when I signed in to write, it made me sign in with my gmail account. So strange!

Here are some highlights of the past week:
1. Made my French litterature prof happy and tricked her into thinking I'm brilliant...muahaha
2. Finished Season 2 of Grey's Anatomy. I think I'll need some convincing to start Season 3.
3. Gave my honours presentation...done and over with! And didn't go too bad.
- worst comment: Hair flipping was distracting (hair flipping? HAIR FLIPPING??? I put my hair behind my ears once to get it out of my face)
- best comment: SUPER SPECIAL AWESOME! (this definitely made my day!)
4. Turned 20! Definitely the coolest gift (not favourite...I don't choose favourites) is...the ERASABLE highlighter. Seriously, so fun to use!
5. Fell in love with a patient at the Cobequid. Haha...just kidding. But he was very attractive!

Oh blog, I really do love you!

I think I'm having a guilt trip after not writing for over a month! There are times when I think about giving it up but then something inside me tells me not to. Well, when you think about it, if I blog once every month, that's only 12 times in the entire year! I think I can commit to that :).

Soooo I guess it's time for an update! I am officially on a facebook fast until August 25th which is when I write my MCAT. Studying has been...going. Kaplan course is done so now it's getting down to the nitty gritty! Speaking of studying, I'm going to MCAT Boot Camp next week! Yep! I'm going to Windsor to stay with a friend who's writing the same day as me. The schedule's pretty intense...like getting up at 6:30 and studying until 10:30 with only 3 half hour breaks in the whole day. I think she's a little insane but I definitely prefer studying with friends than by myself!

Good news is that I'm almost done the intro for my honours protocol! It's taken SO long and my supervisor was gone for most of July which was really tough. But she had a look at it the other day and said it looks great! YAY! The other good news is that she said I can take the next few weeks off to focus on studying. She's awesome. Only problem? I haven't quite gotten her approved yet to be my honours supervisor :S. I have to send her CV to the committee so I'm praying really hard that she'll be accepted!

Wow, I'm actually out of things to say! Whoever does read this, could you pray that my MCAT will go well? Even if it's just a short prayer...like right at this moment...you don't have to hold a prayer vigil or anything (although that would be awesome)...anyways, I would really appreciate it. Thanks! Can't promise any updates until September but I'll try to write a quick blurb after the MCAT to say I'm still alive :).

Highlights from T dot

That's what ppl call Toronto, right? Is it T dot or T-dot or T.dot? I don't know. Anyways, I was in Toronto this past weekend to visit my Auntie and Uncle (taking advantage of those flying priviledges already). While I was there I did a lot of...thinking. Here are some random thoughts that crossed my mind and highlights from the trip:

Thoughts
#1: There are a lot of people in Toronto...and a lot of them are Chinese! (I think I saw more Chinese people there in a day than I see in Halifax in a year.)
#2: Toronto is the city that never sleeps (12am...still so many people out that you'd think it was afternoon.
#3: (upon returning to Halifax) I feel like a minority. There are white people everywhere.
#4: (during the airplane descent) It looks like this plane is landing in the middle of a forest.
#5: (on the drive home) The buildings here are really short and kind of stubby looking.

Don't get me wrong, I love Halifax! It's just that you realize how small it really is when you come back from a big city.

Highlights
#1: Rebekah is reunited with Taro...mmmm...after about 1 year of separation, my tastebuds are finally satisfied with a Taro-filled bun!
#2: The warm weather! It's actually summer in Toronto.
#3: Me and my sisters going to the Apple store and playing with the computers. We took 18 pictures, tried to email them to ourselves...this wasn't working so one of the guys working there helped us. And then we all took a picture together...it was fun :).
#4: Yummy icecream from the Slush truck. I'm glad I got a medium because a large would have been like...1 foot tall!
#5: Seeing my Aunt and Uncle again. Hearing my aunt recount stories of her and Dad in their younger days. Surprising Story: Dad in Irish Pub.

The only downside of going to Toronto was the amount of studying I got done which was like...none at all. The good news is that I'm no longer writing the MCAT in Maine! The AAMC added more test dates so now I'm writing on the 25th of August (which means less summer *sniff sniff*). Oh well.

Updates on what's happening this summer: I'm going to be starting my honours in July with a woman working in neonatal/perinatal research!!! I'm excited because it's exactly what I want to get in to! Still waiting to hear back for a job but I have another interview for being a personal care assistant. Also, I'm gonna be volunteering at the QEII!!

Okay, it's time to go back to studying Physics.

Conflicting Thoughts

Sometimes I wonder if I'm headed in the right direction. You know that feeling that usually comes during tough times...that little thought that tells you that what you're doing (studying for the mcat) isn't too fun and there's a thousand ways you could better spend your time.

Maybe I just need more self-motivation. Right now physics and general chemistry aren't appealing to me. What appeals to me is organic chemistry and biology...so much more straight forward! Wow...now I sound like a big nerd!

Actually, I wish I was one of those people who seem to have 48 hours in each day. Seriously, with the amount of work those people get done, there must be 2 of them or something!

I actually met with a potential honours supervisor yesterday and it went mostly well! The research he's doing sounds amazing! He explained it so fast but I think the gist of the project I'm interested in would deal with inducing tumors in rats and then splicing genes to suppress the tumor! So cool!! The only downside might be a language barrier. Dr. Pasumarthi's english is pretty good but another guy in the lab who would probably be helping me a lot has...limited english...meh...it can't be tooo bad :).

Oh, last thing - got a call the other day and I have another interview scheduled for Tuesday! It's at...Garage Clothing. Yes, I would be selling clothes to pre-teen girls...but imagine the discounts! The question is: is there enough time in the week to work, do honours project, and study for the mcat? Part of me says "GO FOR IT!!!" and the other part is shying away. Caution: I might age 20 years by the end of the summer :S.

I'm being forced to update my blog...

Okay, so it's been about a month that I've left my poor blog to be read by random blog-stalkers. Sorry about the not-so-frequent updates everyone. Here's what's been happening!

1. I'm taking an mcat course at dal! Yes, this is a course to prepare one to write the exam. Our teacher seems really good so far so hopefully it will be enjoyable. Note: the mcat is an opportunity, not an obstacle (I've been repeating this to myself all day).

2. I'm looking for a job. I did a computer survey at Payless and halfway through it I thought "Yeah, they're definitely not going to hire me by the way these questions are going" so I had fun with the rest of it...example:
Question: "How many times have your parents punished you for taking something that wasn't yours"
My Answer: Three times...this was probably a bad move since they now think I have a bad habit of stealing...I was thinking more of taking my sisters' toys when we were little.

However, I have a job interview tonight to be a personal aid assistant and if that doesn't work out I have one tomorrow for ScotiaCare, working as a companion or in child care.

3. If all these jobs fail, I can always do my honours research this summer instead of during the fall. Here are my options so far:
a. Work in a lab which involves measuring the Hippocampi in MRI images of normal patients and ones with clinical depression.
b. Working for "Frog Man"...heee heee. He works with frogs and is researching something about their turning bias and "handedness"
c. Doing my honours in the fall and doing cardiovascular research.

They all sound exciting so we'll see what works out.

4. Volunteering at the QEII. Had an interview but am basically in except I have to find proof of my first mumps shot...which has been missing since my previous family doctor retired :S.

5. My dad got a new job! He's now working for Air Canada Jazz after 26 years at IMP. He says he's not comfortable with it yet (only 2 weeks on the job so far) but hopefully he'll ease in. It's definitely a huge answer to dad's prayers :). Oh, and the perks? Free travel...only have to pay the airport fees!!

Hope that my blog fans have enjoyed this post (fans? haha...what a joke) and I hope you're happy about the update Gilberto!!

Self-absorbed???

So for the past 2 weeks when studying for my exams, whenever I've been in the living room on our grey couch I would smell something really good every so often. Looking around and seeing nothing, I thought to myself, "It must be my amazing natural aroma coming out...man do I smell good!" Yes...it was a bit prideful of me to think that. And then on Friday at about 1am when I was studying Physics, I smelled it again, decided to look behind me on the table and realized that it was coming from the potpourri that mom put out a while ago.

Why didn't I realize it was there before? It's so obvious!! Am I self-absorbed and automatically think that every amazing thing is somehow linked to myself? So much for incredible natural aroma...looks like I'll still have to go with body spray :(. I guess it's God's way of teaching me to be a little more humble!

Superman revised

Actually, I think I like this picture of superman way better. Superman meets Hello Kitty...lol.
